1. The Justice Project

We are drafting the blueprints for a Métis adjudicative body to enable Métis citizens to have matters within the Métis Nation-Saskatchewan assessed and resolved by our own processes.

This is an idea whose time has come. Many visions of what a Métis adjudicative body could look like have been created by many people: at kitchen tables, in community by citizens John Melanchuk, by academics Marilyn Poitras and many others who were active in pushing for the building of our own internal systems in many, many ways.

Currently, the creation of such a adjudicative body is supported by the following:

  • Métis Nation-Saskatchewan Resolution in April 2018.

  • Métis Government Recognition and Self-Government Agreement with Canada

  • United Nations Declaration on the Rights of indigenous Peoples

This project will:

  • Examine, through the widest possible lens, what is possible for the design of a Métis adjudicative body

  • Narrow the focus based on research, feedback and then design a potential model

  • Create and test out prototypes early

  • Ultimately present a workable design for a forum that meets the needs of the Métis people within the MN-S
