Dawn Pritchard
Dawn grew up hanging out at Metis local 11 in Saskatoon. On Wednesdays her dad would pick her up from school to bring her there where granny served bannock and boullettes for lunch. Friday and Saturday was bingo night, when she and her cousin Shirley worked her granny’s concession eating their way through granny’s delicious salmon salad sandwiches. Sunday evening she attended Local 11 for mass and other’s showed up later for AA.
Dawn attended the University of Saskatchewan faculty of law (L.L.B. class of 96) and the Saskatchewan Indian Federated College (as it was then known).
Her legal career began at the Court of Appeal for Saskatchewan, then meandered here and there through Legal Aid Saskatchewan as a criminal defence lawyer for youth, to Saskatchewan Government Insurance, private practice, the City of Saskatoon Solicitor’s Office and to Justice Canada. While with government, Dawn served as legal counsel for Environment and Climate Change Canada’s legal services, Public Service Procurement Canada’s legal services and Global Affairs, Oceans and Environmental law.
In 2023 Dawn started her own practice Dawn Pritchard Law & Consulting (dawnpritchardlawandconsulting.com)where she works with clients on Indigenous governance, procurement, and environmental matters. She is a member of the Law Society of Ontario, a non-practicing member of the Law Society of Saskatchewan, and has a restricted appearance certificate in Nunavut.
Dawn is excited to be a part of this Metis Nation – Saskatchewan Tribunal development initiative. Her pieces are related to legislative backing, including UNDRIP and enforcement.
